Your bill divided by your price per kWh gives the kWh you use in a year. An electric car adds its own kWh on top, which is why it justifies more panels.

How much do solar panels save in Málaga?

For a typical home a well-sized system saves roughly €500–1,100 a year, thanks to Málaga's 2,900+ hours of sun. What matters most is how much of the production you actually use yourself: without a battery that is typically only 30–40%, because most generation happens while nobody is home. The rest is exported and paid at a much lower rate.

How long do solar panels take to pay back?

The IDAE puts the usual range at 6 to 10 years, and this calculator lands in that band. Anyone promising 4 years is usually assuming you self-consume far more than a real household does. Panels last 25+ years, so most of that life is pure saving.

Is a battery worth it?

A battery raises self-consumption from around 35% to 60–80%, so your yearly saving goes up — but it adds €450–650 per kWh of capacity, so the payback usually gets slightly longer, not shorter. Its real value is independence: energy at night and cover during a power cut. Move the battery slider to see both curves on the chart.

Does an electric car change the maths?

A lot. A car adds significant yearly consumption, which justifies a bigger array, and roughly half its charging can be moved to daylight hours so it soaks up surplus you would otherwise export at €0.06/kWh. Switch the electric car on above and watch the recommended system size and the saving move.

What if I do not know my price per kWh?

Leave it on the average. A typical all-in domestic price in Spain is around €0.20/kWh once energy, grid charges and taxes are included; regulated PVPC has recently averaged nearer €0.17 and fixed free-market deals €0.11–0.17. Your bill has the exact figure, and the closer you set it the better the estimate.

Are there grants or tax deductions for solar panels?

Yes. For your main home there are IRPF income-tax deductions of 20% or 40% of the investment, in force until 31 December 2026 and requiring an energy certificate that proves the improvement. Many councils also cut your IBI property tax for several years, and Andalucía runs its own incentive programmes. I live in a flat — can I still have solar?

Often yes, through collective self-consumption: the building installs panels on the communal roof and the output is shared between the flats that join, each with an agreed share.
